How I work

We all experience emotional difficulties at some point in our lives and, when we do, it can help to talk about how you are feeling in a safe and confidential space.

I offer a warm and compassionate counselling relationship to support you to find ways of coping and in time, to thrive. Together we can explore solutions for the challenges experienced by you or your child.

Therapy provides a safe space to explore issues that might be troubling someone. The relationship between the therapist and the client is at the heart of this process. I use various ways of working with children and young people: play, art, drama, music, sand tray and talking. These offer a variety of ways of expressing thoughts, worries, feelings and of working with them. The aim is to help children or young people to find their own solutions and ways of managing their situation.

My practice is grounded in person-centred counselling. I believe that in every person there is a deep longing to be seen and understood. Harnessing the arts, reflective skills and empathy in a judgement-free relationship, I will help your child or young person to understand and explore their thoughts and feelings freely.

How it works

I will usually meet with a child or young person for 50 minutes once a week on the same day and at the same time. Once the child / young person is comfortable with me, it can be helpful to meet with the child's parent or carer for feedback and agree some goals.

The consistency of sessions is very important for developing a trusting relationship. Any unplanned breaks in therapy may disrupt progress. I don't tend to fix the number of sessions, instead relying on regular reviews to assess progress.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a very important part of the therapeutic process and it will be respected at all times. There may be exceptional circumstances where information must be shared, for example if there is reason to believe that the child is at risk of significant harm. I will give more information at the first appointment.

What it costs

Starting your counselling journey can be quite challenging, even daunting, but please reach out for a FREE 20 minute initial complimentary, no commitment, consultation.

If after that you would like to proceed then we would book an information gathering meeting with parents / carers for 90 minutes which costs £90. Regular client sessions are £60 each. A session lasts approximately 50 minutes.

A reduced fee may be available for parents or carers in receipt of benefits or otherwise on a low income. Please enquire about this in the initial consultation.
